Feel relaxed, feel inspired
We offer 7 night Painting holidays throughout the year, tutored by visiting artists to suit all abilities.
Our holidays include visits to local villages and events, markets, spa, brocante visits and chateau tours. Excursions to local events and places provide excellent painting material and an authentic French experience and for painting holiday guests include a visit to the breathtaking water gardens of Latour Marliac which is where Monet obtained the Water Lilies for his gardens at Giverny, the inspiration for so many of his paintings or to ‘Les jardins de Coursiana’ in a lovely nearby village listed by UNESCO.
Other visits include a Spa visit, a brocante visit, a visit to the Chocolaterie which inspired author Joanne Harris’s ‘Chocolat’ or a visit to a local gallery at the Abbeye de Flaran which features works of art by many well known 20th century artists.
The Perfect Surroundings
Holidays are held at La Salle, our beautiful country house in this quiet corner of South West France. Albert Camus, called the area ‘Le petit Toscane’ or ‘little Tuscany’. Tiny hilltop villages perch above rolling fields of Sunflowers and vineyards and there is little traffic on the winding country roads, still relatively undiscovered.
The area is famous for it’s Armagnac, wine and hearty cuisine. D’Artagnan the character imortalised by Alexandre Dumas in the novel ‘The three musketeers’ was based on Charles de Batz D’Artagnan who lived in nearby Chateau Castelmore. There are many references to his memory in the form of sculptures, street names and often on restaurant menus.
Lots to see and do
La Salle is in a quiet country setting, but only a 10 minute walk to the picturesque bastide village of St Puy where you can wander up to the delightful Cafe/ Restaurant, ‘Chez Vous’ and watch the world go by and get a real feel for french country life. St Puy has it’s own ‘Boulangerie’ where we shop daily for baguettes and croissantes, a charming Pizzeria and Chateau Monluc, which makes the fabulous aperitif ‘Pousse Rapiere’ which we frequently serve at La Salle.
The area is renowned both for its beauty and history. There are 5 of the officially listed ‘most beautiful villages in France’, the UNESCO world heritage site at La Romieu and the Roman villa of Seviac with it’s amazing mosaics only 20 minutes away.
